People are afraid of who they might become if they have no boundaries. imagine having no rules, no laws, no beliefs, only you and your body. without those restrictions, you could do anything; you could become anyone or anything you wanted to. the sheer power and choice that is encapsulated in this thought is terrifying to most people. they don't want to know what might happen if they let go, what they might be capable of; and so they turn to systems that define how they should exist. a religion tells you what to believe, what to to, how you should live your life. society, careers, other people, belief systems, governments, powerful people, lovers, spouses, stereotypes, models, magazines, journalists, columnists, T.V., music, actors, singers etc., etc., all give people boundaries and rules on how they should live their lives. this is why people are attracted to them. they feel safe and secure within those identities, especially within the identity of who they believe they are, and that is why they stay there and never break out. people are way too terrified of who they might become and what they might be capable of to ever let go of rules and boundaries. they need them to survive.
